• Indian Army carries out surgical strikes on terror launch pads across LoC.

Marking a radical departure from the past in its response to cross-border terrorism, India Thursday 29 September 2016 announced that its Army had carried out “surgical strikes” in the early hours of the day to destroy seven launch pads along the Line of Control where teams of terrorists had positioned themselves. This is the first time New Delhi has officially acknowledged a military strike in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) — cross-LoC operations in the past have never elicited any official response. The operation, which commenced past midnight, was successfully completed by 4.30 am. But the Special Forces soldiers had been positioned into the forward bases along the LoC by helicopters around 2 pm Wednesday 28 September 2016.

• The Union Government on 29 September 2016 appointed R Subramania Kumar as Executive Director (ED) of state-owned Indian Overseas Bank.He  is currently serving as the Executive Director of Indian Bank.

• Indian women’s Kabbadi team Won gold medal at the 5th Asian Beach Games. In the summit clash played at Bien Dong Park in Danang, Vietnam, the team defeated Thailand .
