Top News of the month :

• Indian Army carries out surgical strikes on terror launch pads across LoC.

Marking a radical departure from the past in its response to cross-border terrorism, India Thursday 29 September 2016 announced that its Army had carried out “surgical strikes” in the early hours of the day to destroy seven launch pads along the Line of Control where teams of terrorists had positioned themselves. This is the first time New Delhi has officially acknowledged a military strike in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) — cross-LoC operations in the past have never elicited any official response. The operation, which commenced past midnight, was successfully completed by 4.30 am. But the Special Forces soldiers had been positioned into the forward bases along the LoC by helicopters around 2 pm Wednesday 28 September 2016.

• The World Health Organisation, a specialised agency of UN has declared the Region of the Americas as Measles free.                                                                                                              

• The Union Government on 30 September 2016 decided to raise the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) investment in Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) from existing 5 per cent to 10 per cent.

• Former Israeli Prime Minister and President Shimon Peres passed away on 28 September 2016 in Ramat Gan, Israel.

• The Union Cabinet has given its approval to apply the Paris Agreement (on Climate Change) on Gandhi Jayanti i.e. on 2nd October 2016.

• Infosys has launched Skava Commerce, a modern, mobile-first and modular e-commerce platform that delivers engaging omni-channel experiences on 28 September 2016.Skava is a Silicon Valley based e-commerce startup company.

• The Union Government on 29 September 2016 appointed R Subramania Kumar as Executive Director (ED) of state-owned Indian Overseas Bank.He  is currently serving as the Executive Director of Indian Bank.

• Indian women’s Kabbadi team Won gold medal at the 5th Asian Beach Games. In the summit clash played at Bien Dong Park in Danang, Vietnam, the team defeated Thailand .

• "Tourism for all - promoting universal accessibility" is the theme of World Tourism Day 2016.

                                                                                                     

• Jim Yong Kim has been re appointed for a second five year term as world bank presidentbegining july1, 2017.

UIICL has released the List of Candidates provisionally selected for Pre-Employment Medical Examination - Recruitment for the Post of Administrative Officer (Generalist & Specialist) – 2016.

• Third list of smart cities announced:

SS Malikarjuna Rao has been appointed as new ED of Syndicate Bank.Prior to joining the bank,Rao was General Manager and CFO of Oriental Bank of Commerce(OBC).

• Junaid Ahmad is new Head of World Bank in India :

                

Junaid Ahmad has become Head of World Bank in India.He will replace Onno Ruhl who completed his four year term.He hails from Bangladesh and was chief of staff to the World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim before being elevated to the current position.

• Facebook appoints Anand Chandrashekharan :

Facebook has appointed former chief product officer at Snapdeal Anand Chandrashekharan for a strategic role for its messenger app. Anand served many multinational companies during his career Yahoo,Bharti,Snapdeal are few of them.

• India successfully tested Barak-8:

                     

India has successfully test fired Barak -8 off the Odhisha coast. Barak-8 is new long range surface to air missile jointly developed by India and Israel. This nuclear capable ballistic missile launched from a mobile launcher at the integrated test range in Chandipur in Balasore district.

• Origin of Pluto’s Huge Icy Heart found :

Scientists have unveiled the origin of the large heart shaped nitrogen glacier on Pluto spotted by NASA’s new Horizons spacecraft.Researchers show that pluto’s peculiar insolation and atmosphere favour nitrogen condensation near the equator,leadin an accumulation of ice at the bottom

• Priyesh Deshmukh wins Bronze in World Championship:

 Deaf Indian shooter Priyesh Deshmukh won the bronze medal in her first ever International competition at the first World deaf shooting Championships held in Kazan,Russia.She won bronze in the 10m air rifle category and it was her maiden International Participation.
